Clumped beam with linear thermal load

A beam fixed at both ends is assumed to be subjected to one-step linear thermal load.

Temperature varies linearly between T2 = 1000 oC at y = -h to T1 = -1000 oC at y = h.

Plane stress is assumed and the physical properties of the beam are: E = 106 N/m2, v = 0.3, α = 10-7 oC-1.

The numerical solution for the normal stresses, σx along the y-axis in the center of the beam is compared with analytical solution:

σx=Eα(T1T2)yh\sigma_x = -E\alpha\frac{(T_1-T_2)y}{h}
